Yo!
The last few episodes of the podcast, plus the one that’s coming out next week…
Well–they taught me something. But…OK, I gotta tell you a little about next week’s episode first! I talked to
Brennen Matthews joined me for a little over an hour. Brennen is the editor of ROUTE Magazine, a leading national American bi-monthly magazine that focuses on the fascinating human stories behind US road travel, Route 66, and classic Americana. ROUTE’s vibrant website can be found on www.routemagazine.us.
He also wrote Miles to Go: An African Family in Search of America along Route 66. Click the link to pre-order/order (depending when you see this) right now!
It’s a wonderful book about family, America, Route 66, and the interconnectedness of history and people. It reads smoothly like good fiction, but is, in fact, a true account of an African family traveling America’s highway. The conversation was fun, informative, and enlightening. I hope you check it out on CREATIVE OPS, wherever the podcasts hide out.
Back to it…
All these podcast conversations have kinda put me in my place. I’ve been acting like a know-it-all with writing and promoting, but if I knew it all, I wouldn’t be pitching my novel about teens in 1996 who get pulled into a time travel war against their adult selves, who are fleeing the future because of a deadly parasitic fungus that is wiping out humanity in a slow, gruesome way. I won’t keep talking about it. Here’s the link if you’re like, “Bruh…tell me more. I like stuff that reminds me of The Goonies, Back to the Future, and has kind of a Stranger Things feel to it.”
Which, by the way, I’ve been told. A lot. I wasn’t trying to do that, but it got did. So…one last chance to click the link.
Oh. So–I’ve been getting upset about people doing the “wrong” things. Or people who have “misplaced focus” or whatever. But what people keep telling me is that this is ALL part of the ride. Don’t act like you know what you’re doing. Just do what you think is best, stay in your lane, and let people be happy in their own lane. If someone asks, give advice. Otherwise…
My vision is my vision. My hopes and dreams are my hopes and dreams. Leave everyone else’s alone. Tend to my own.
Be happy. Be creative. Be you.
Live at your own speed and love every friggin minute of it. Or die trying!
That’s all I got…
