Podcast Guest Breakdown

a podcast for creative people - hosted by christopher tallon

Hey folks!

Thanks for stopping by to check out the podcast. I made it because 1) I wanted to connect with more creatives, 2) I wanted to spread some of their creative energy and know-how around, and 3) I wanted a chance to connect with you.

So, my next question is: Do you like podcasts? Great!

Do you like original music? That’s good, because I just happen to make and record music, and I use it in my podcast exclusively. If you haven’t already, go check out my music section. Most of the music from the podcast, plus music I made for other podcasts and YouTubers, is there. Enjoy!

Back to the matter at hand, it sounds like you should try A Podcast for Creative People. It’s over three years old now, has all the aforementioned traits, comes out Mondays, and is available on all podcast platforms!

(Yes, the show is currently in hiatus while Christopher Tallon is deep at work on his next novel, but he’s already got guests booked for when it returns.)

Not sure where to start and/or you’d like to see who’s been on and what they do?

Check out the…

Guest Breakdown by Category!

On A Podcast for Creative People, I talk to a lot of different kinds of folks across the creative spectrum. If there’s a certain type of creative you wanna listen to, here’s all the interviews sorted by category:

Thank you very much for listening.

My Book Team

This was from the week my debut novel dropped. Kirk Ross is my cover designer (and host of A Talk in the Attic, which I’ve appeared on several times). TJ Tranchell is my editor (and a fantastic horror writer), Jennifer Soucy is also a fantastic horror author (and she introduced me to TJ after she read my manuscript). And Brandon Scott is an author I met on the podcast–he read my manuscript and was one of my biggest cheerleaders as I went through the publishing process and everything since. We all talked about writing, publishing, how we met, and how the game works. It was great to talk with them.

BOOK RELEASE WEEK | Jennifer Soucy – awesome writer, great giver of notes, and a badass lady! A Podcast for Creative People

It's been a week since my book, Switchers, released for purchase. Jennifer Soucy really helped me get my sh*t together in regards to that novel. She was somewhere between beta reader and editor. Then she introduced me to fellow writer (and my ACTUAL editor) TJ Tranchell. We talk about other creatives like Brandon Scott, Kirk Ross, and Shawn Burgess. I'll put links to all their stuff, along with Jen's books, and…of course…MY BOOK down at the bottom. Thanks for listening. Pharmhouse Wellness: The Only 100% Locally Owned And Grown Dispensary in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Pharmhouse Wellness is the only 100% locally owned cannabis dispensary in Grand Rapids, Michigan (and they grow their own cannabis right next to the store.

It is also the first physical location I ever sold books at during an art festival they hosted. Then they became the first store to sell my books. My relationship with this company began as a customer, then an art vendor, and now I’m going to do some professional work for them. I absolutely love these people and what they’re doing. Listen to find out about their holiday giveaways (turkeys and dinners, presents, pumpkins, school supplies), as well as the amazing story behind how a married couple quit their jobs and spent their life savings on a house they turned into a dispensary. Amazing people doing amazing things.

Ep.56 | Casey Kornoelje – Grand Rapids’ Only Local in the Cannabis Game A Podcast for Creative People

Casey Kornoelje is the sole owner of the only locally-owned cannabis dispensary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. You might ask, "There are so many dispensaries…how is Pharmhouse Wellness the only local one?"  Great question. Listen for the answer to that, how Casey got into growing in the first place, how the shop came to fruition, and what his plans are for the shop and the community around it going forward. . . . Check out Pharmhouse Wellness on their website, http://www.pharmhousewellness.com, on Facebook @pharmhousewellness, and on Instagram @pharmhousewellness. . . . Ep.73 | The Pharmhouse Wellness Art Market: A Podumentary… A Podcast for Creative People

Pharmhouse Wellness, Grand Rapids, Michigan's only locally owned and operated dispensary, had another art market. Again I sold books and (someone else's (my daugher's!)) art. This time, however, I brought my podcast gear and made a whole thing of it, talking to a little bit of every kind of person around: pot smokers, local celebrities, art enthusiasts, art vendors, budtenders, and one of the event organizers. And Mike Logan did a great read of the back of my book Switchers, which I encourage you to read. Your future self will thank you… .   .   . I'm on my Everywhere BUT Bookstores Tour promoting my novel, Switchers, a scifi story that pits teens in 1996 against their adult selves in a winner-take-all time travel war. Musicians

I’m also a musician. I could host a podcast just about music and musicians. Maybe I will someday…

Creative Ops | Ep.20 | Jake Bryan – HEARTSICK Drummer & Music Lover A Podcast for Creative People

As a drummer, I was excited to nerd out with my new buddy, Jake Bryan. Jake is the drummer for HEARTSICK, the Lansing-based band that's been playing loud music for 20 years. I started following this band even before Jake joined. As you'll find out, he joined the band around the same time I left the Lansing area for good. Jake came from a musical family, where his passion for drumming was highly encouraged from a young age. In his teens, he found his passion as a traveling performer with the school band when they performed in Florida and New York City. Before joining Heartsick, he played drums in a Final Fantasy themed metal band–something I wasn't aware was a thing. Alfonso and the guys from Heartsick, a hard rocking band from Lansing, Michigan, are old friends of mine. On top of being an incredible group both musically and as live performers, that's why I'm happy to support them ahead of their next festival performance. See, last year they cause such a ruckus amongst the crowd on the Lookout Stage the organizers asked them not only to come back this year, but to open the show on SATURDAY JULY 16 on the Main Stage at 1:20pm. Alfonso talks about how they got involved with the festival and where the energy for their insane live shows (they have all been known to puke after a show…) comes from. Through a few twists and turns in his healing process, he found great relief through cannabis, which led him to seek a career in the professional field of medicinal cannabis. We met through music as kids and, years later, reconnected as adults through some of the same musicians. Speaking of, shoutout to Heartsick, a fantastic band from Lansing, MI, that's been killing it for roughly two decades. Check out some a few band member appearances on earlier episodes of the show (#4, #20, #72)! Wondering about the podcast ad at the beginning? It's for my friends at Threads Podcast: Life Unfiltered. Ep.109 | Tyler D. Way – Custom Shoes, Painting for LeBron James, & HAS HEART Coffee Shop A Podcast for Creative People

Tyler D. Way is a soft spoken, brilliant creative. He got his start sneaking into NBA arenas and pitching custom shoes to any player who would listen to him, which ultimatley led to being invited to the Nike campus to meet LeBron and present him a painting. He's worked in graphic design, fashion, and most recently coffee. HAS HEART serves coffee but it's more than that. HAS HEART also allows veterans to connect with artists to tell their story. As a veteran myself, I love that there's a social space where people can share their military experiences and get a free cup of regular coffee, as well as discounted specialty drinks and food. . . . Follow my guest, Tyler D. Way: on Instagram and/or LinkedIn, check out his Bio Site, and for the love of God, check out HAS HEART on Instagram or their website. Follow me, Christopher Tallon: on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram, check out my website where you can buy my novel, Switchers, about teens in 1996 who get into a time travel war against their adult selves. Thanks for listening. Hit me up on social media and let me know what you think of the show! . . . Shout outs to HAS HEART and every one of the wonderful people who work there, Cpl. Ep.110 | Michael Hyacinthe – Entrepreneurship, Wimee's Words on PBS, and HAS HEART A Podcast for Creative People

Michael Hyacinthe is an 8 year Navy Veteran who served around the world with the Seabees, the construction arm of the Navy. He left the military to pursue his interests in entrepreneurship. He currently has multiple ventures working in children's educational programs, a coffee shop, and works with veterans through the Grand Valley State University Veteran Entrepreneurship Lab.  Michael, along with my last guest, Tyler Way, created an initiative that wound up becoming a physical coffee shop of the same name, Has Heart, which connects injured/disabled veterans with artists to create designs that are sold in the shop. (And they serve great coffee. (As well as free and discounted drinks for veterans.)) Wimage, the app Michael created with his team, helps kids become producers, not just consumers, with the help of a character named Wimee, who has a TV show called Wimee's Words on PBS, as well as a bunch of books. When you're in Grand Rapids, check out what Michael's got going on by visiting The Wimee Store & Studio at 125 Ottawa Ave NW Suite 150 Grand Rapids, MI 49503. It's open Wednesday–Saturday from 12:00pm– 6:00pm, and on Sunday from 12:00pm–3:00pm. And grab a coffee from Has Heart at 22 Sheldon Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503

In times where our divisions are highlighted in the media constantly, Brennen Matthews book, "Miles to Go: An African Family in Search of America Along Route 66", offers a different, more united version of America. One through the lens of a family who, by according to some "SHOULD have been" victims of prejudicial treatment (an African bi-racial family in America), saw nothing but beauty all throughout middle-America and its inhabitants and travelers. Hear about his experiences working in charity, journalism, and how he and his wife decided to take a road trip across a country native to NEITHER of them with their young son, which was then documented beautifully in Brennen Matthews book, "Miles to Go: An African Family in Search of America Along Route 66", which he talks about researching, traveling, and writing about. Creative Ops | Ep.33 | Mike Logan – ADD & Homegrown Weed A Podcast for Creative People

Got to sit down with the Ice Cold Comedian, Mike Logan…IN HIS HOUSE! (He's got a bad leg at the moment, so I came to him. You'll hear some neighborhood noise in the interview.)  I named this one "ADD & Homegrown Weed" because those were the main obstacles early in our conversation. But once it got going, Mike and I had a great talk. We, of course, covered creativity and the creative process, but we got into all kinds of other stuff: moving from place to place, racism, goal setting/changing goals as you age, classic art, how the media tries to convince us we're divided when, in Mike's opinion, we've actually been brought closer together in the last year and a half.  Mike tells stories from the entertainment industry, does a few impressions, cracks me up, and shares his fascinating perspective on a wide variety of topics.  Follow Mike Logan on all your favorite social media platforms @icecoldcomedian for updates on performances, a daily dose of wholesome, and some hard-but-necessary truths. Listen as we discuss our best and worst memories, how teachers REALLY talk in the teachers' lounge (sadly, it's always very good), and what it was like for Drew as an intern trying to teach non-English speaking refugees who were illiterate in their native language and never received formal education. (Amongst other things.) I mentioned the book EXPLORE/CREATE by , and I highly recommend it. Thanks for listening. . . . Check out Hey Guys Media Group if you're interested in starting a podcast!
