My Fun 41st Birthday Experience: Slinging Books and Meeting Readers

There’s a quite a few new people on this email list. To those of you who signed up at the Food Truck Festival—I enjoyed meeting you, so many people stopping to take a look at my book made for a really nice birthday. (Yes, I worked all day on my birthday.)

Thank you.

My Birthday

As I mentioned above, I spent the majority of my birthday slingin books and signing people up for my email list. Some might say, “That doesn’t sound like a fun way to spend your birthday.”

I’d argue—most people would also probably say spending hundreds of hours writing a story that you aren’t even sure anyone is ever going to read doesn’t sound like much fun. And I did that, so…

I’m not big into celebrating my birthday, so slinging books was more preferable than having a party. I see my family and friends all the time. It was actually pretty cool meeting people who were interested in my book. That said, thanks to everyone who said HBD on Instagram and Facebook. That was nice to see after I packed up my wares for the day.

Looking back at the day I’m happy to report that I’m 41, bald-and-loving-it, and my life continues to get more interesting, in large part to meeting all kinds of people through this little book I wrote.

Thank you for being a part of…whatever this is.

Books & Food Trucks

As you probably are well friggin aware by now, I wrote a book called Switchers. Now—I’m not a bettin man, but I’d wager most of you only know me because of it. If you already bought it, thank you so much. If you read it, THANKS DUDE! If you haven’t picked up a copy…ebooks are cheaper on my website, but you can still get it on Amazon if you really want to.

OK, enough self promo.

Quick Recap from the Festival: I sold a few dozen books over the weekend, between physical paperbacks and ebooks. That’s a big weekend for a schmo like me, haha. Thank you, seriously!, for for the support, folks. The Food Truck Festival was awesome, if you were wondering. Go to any food truck event in the Grand Rapids area; the food is phenomenal and so are the people.

My neighbors were super cool. The music was good. I saw this food and I thought, Wow, this looks like great food.**

**Cool story, remember it so you can tell your grandkids someday.

Upcoming Book News

My next book is tentatively called Sleepwalker Angel. My first book was tentatively called Switchers, so if history is any indicator.

It’s supernatural horror with a female lead. Astral projection. Talking to the dead. Talking to the Grim Reaper (he isn’t called that in the book, but we know who he is). A rural cult in northern Michigan. A cult leader.

I’m excited for it. It’s in a few people’s hands now and I’m waiting for some feedback. Then I’ll be sending it to my amazing editor, T.J. Tranchell, a superb horror writer himself, who has some amazing books about Mormon “dispossessions.” Think The Exorcist but from a Mormon perspective.

Not to brag on my friend, but it was in the NYT’s 50 Scares, 50 States as the scariest book set in Utah. So there.

I’ll be posting about my book on my Instagram and Facebook as we draw nearer, have a cover, a solid release date, etc…. So, if that’s your thing, give me a follow to keep up with updates and my regular shenanigans.

I think that’s all for now.

Thanks again for everyone’s support.
