A Good Thing: The Quiet Nerd
This dude makes stuff that anyone could make, but it’s actually cool stuff. He made a boat out of foam board, wood, and fiberglass. He also made an electric camper that he can drive into the woods, sleep, hang out, and cook in.
This dude is a cross between the guy who makes James Bond’s gear, McGiver, and your friend who never had to study in school or follow LEGO instructions. There’s one video where he made a portable gaming station and went into the woods at night to play Resident Evil while he camped out.
It’s fun to watch if you like DIY stuff, or if you just enjoy watching a master at work.
Tallon’s Thoughts: I’m a Stay-at-Home Dad…F**kin Deal with It

Hahaha.
I realize that’s coming in pretty damn hot. Sorry. I get worked up sometimes. Recently I’ve noticed an uptick in people telling me that I should get a “real” job instead of “making [my wife] do all the work.” And that I need to “make sure to help [my wife] since she’s the one who works.”
First of all, it’s not like I couldn’t get a job and had to settle for some dopey chick that would put up with all my BS. When my wife and I first got married, I worked and she stayed home. While we had one kid who was in school already. And we lived in Florida at the time where it was actually nice out.
I worked until our fourth kid was born. Then we decided that one of us should stay home with the kids. We decided it after my wife suggested, “You know, you could stay home with the kids. Then you could write that book you’ve been talking about.”
And that’s exactly what we did.
So the last couple times someone said something about my wife working and me needing to “help out”, I just say, “Well when she had to take some time off work, my books paid the mortgage, so I think I am helping, while also being there for my kids AFTER I sacrificed my teaching career for the sake of my family.
Ass.
Not you! I’m talking to the hypothetical ass who would shit on a man for sacrificing his career for his family while still working side hustles that paid for vacations, special things with/for the kids, and even, yes, the mortgage. Okay just once, but still…
Thanks for listening to that; I feel better. Now I feel silly for being so upset in the first place. You’re a good friend.
Upcoming Stuff: Me and My Friends Are Doing Stuff!
My very good friend Mike Logan has a whole bunch of stuff going on this December and into the new year. Check this out to find out where he’ll be, then go laugh your ass off at one of his shows. And you can listen to him on my podcast!
And in January, I’ll be doing a reading and signing books for anyone interested. January 18, if you wanna save the date now. I’ll talk more about it as it nears. In the meantime, checkout Cocoon Art Space, which is where I’ll be doing the reading next month. Tedd and Josie, the artists-in-residence/owners, are super cool, they make awesome stuff, and they feature local talent. Good stuff.
Creative Spotlight: Gwopped Up $peedy
Gwopped Up $peedy is one of the hardest working dudes I’ve met in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He makes clothing, he makes music, and I’ve even seen him do event photography at a Mike Logan show.
I met $peedy at an event where I was selling books and he was selling his clothing line. We happened to be booth neighbors so we had a few hours to chat here and there. I expect to get him on the podcast in 2024, but until then, go check him out:
