About to Climax
I’m at that point in writing where the only thing left to do is the big finish. And, in storytelling terms, the big finish, just before the end of the story, is called the climax. It’s the moment where all that built up tension finally comes to a head.
So Close to Finishing
My (absolutely awesome) readers have been asking me for at least a year now, “When ya gonna have another one out?” or some variation of “can’t wait to see what you do next.”
It tickles my soul that people have been so kind. Granted I’ve had a couple readers who didn’t like it, didn’t get it, or whatever. And that’s part of it. My doom brain expected that. A lot more than what I got, “if I’m being honest” (callback to one of Kurt’s favorite sayings in Switchers).
What’s Taking So Long?
After Switchers was published, I intentionally took some time away from writing to focus on the professional side of being a writer. Things like booking shows to sell at, coming up with a booth, making signs, getting cards, building a social media following, and whatnot.
I decided I’d do one year of just pushing, selling, and growing professionally. I wrote during this time, but not with a project idea in mind. At the end of the year I went through my journal, took my favorite idea, and started building it out. Pretty soon I was working on another novel. And now I’m almost done with it. The first 90% or so is in TJ Tranchell‘s (my editor) super capable hands.
When he’s done with that, I’ll (hopefully) be ready to send him the rest. Kirk Ross, the talented mind that created this:
is on the job again. We’re roughly half way through the cover design process. More on that as it’s ready.
