Thanksgiving Recap, Music for Writing, And Probably Some Other Stuff…

Why, hello there!

I hope everyone had a good day yesterday, is continuing to have one today, and so on and so forth.

Holiday Recap

I spent most of Thanksgiving Day with family. Adults talking, some having a few drinks, while kids chased each other from room to room. Snacking in the kitchen while dogs wait stoically for anything to fall to the floor.

We watched together as the Detroit Lions got our hopes way up early, then let us down in a 24-20 loss.

Another tragic tale to add to the long book of Lions meltdowns.

Ate some really good food. Talked. Ate a little more. Played with the kids. Ate some pie. It was, overall, a pretty great day. I had a lot to be thankful for.

But, on top of the usual holiday fun, I stumbled across this video:

It’s not that bad, right?

Background Music for Writing

I like writing with music. For one, it helps clear and focus my mind. It also helps put my mind in the mood I’m trying to create on the page. Another fine feature of putting a YouTube video on in the background, it acts as a timer. If the video is long enough, I’ll just set it to end when my writing time is up, pausing for restroom breaks, tea or coffee refills, kids needing attention, or whatever other interruptions come up.

So this one is good for just about anything you’re doing. It’s 3 hours long, so you won’t need to refresh or click through a lot of ads or anything.

Doesn’t get much creepier than the song from The Walking Dead. Someone put it on a 1 hour loop. If you’re writing something creepy, straight up scary, or just very intense, this’ll help put you in the right frame of mind.

I don’t typically listen to music with words when I write, but Lord Huron’s music is too good not to write to. Phenomenal band. Unique sound.

If none of those do it for ya, let me know in the comments what you listen to.

Random

I’ve got a page on my website dedicated to fun time wasters on the internet. Click anywhere on this sentence to get a direct link to it. There’s a fun fact generator, some music and podcast recommendations, you know–rad shit like that. But if you have any other go-to internet time wasters–and I know you do, you sneaky so and so–PLEASE share those in the comments as well. I hope, with your help, to curate quite the rabbit hole.

What else. . .?

Check out some of my recent posts, like the one about Facing Rejection, or read a short story I wrote called The New Fear, about a child learning to fear the dark. I dunno–besides that, I got nothin, buddy.

Good luck out there!
