The Book Is the Steering Wheel in My Pants

Christopher Tallon has book news

Wanna hear one of my favorite jokes?

A pirate walks into a bar and orders a drink. The bartender says, “Hey, you know you got a steering wheel in your pants?”

The pirates says, “Argh, it drives me nuts.”

I’ve been working on my new book for some time now and it has become the steering wheel in my pants. Being this close to being done with it is driving me nuts.

New Book News: Almost There!

“Writing books is the closest men ever come to childbearing.”

The above quote comes from (as best I can tell) Norman Mailer. Having been around my wife for several pregnancies, I think this is accurate.

Lately I’ve been like, “Ugh…just be over already!”

Don’t get me wrong, I still like writing and I’m really digging this story. I’m ready to be done with it, but once I make the last edit and send it to print, part of me will be sad.

On the plus side, I’ve received some encouraging feedback from early readers on the upcoming book in question. Now I find myself in the final stretch:

That’s right. Self-editing and some rewrites should take me a couple weeks. Then the next phase is sending it to my editor!

If I haven’t already mentioned my editor before, TJ Tranchell is not only my editor but the author of several works of fiction centered around Mormon dispossessions. I love his books, which is a big part of why I wanted to work with him in the first place. You can hear us talking on a few episodes of A Podcast for Creative People:

Ep.39 | TJ Tranchell – Author of TELL NO MAN (and others…) A Podcast for Creative People

Author, Actor, & Academic, TJ Tranchell came on the podcast to discuss his book TELL NO MAN, as well as his writing process, upcoming projects (so exciting!), acting, teaching at a community college, dropping out of school, providing professional writing services, and much more. Old Book News: It’s Cheaper Now!

That’s right! Because I found a printer that gives me a better deal (and better quality books) I’m passing the savings along to you.

If you would so kindly visit my website’s shop you’ll find the cheapest price for an ebook copy of Switchers. You can also order a signed paperback copy of Switchers for the same price as an unsigned copy from Amazon.

And on a side note, you can get the ebook from B&N.com, if you’re a member and wanna get your points or whatever.

A Podcast for Creative People

One last thing.

Sometimes I have fun conversations centered around creativity and the creative process with other creative people. Sometimes I record those conversations.

If you haven’t tried my podcast, A Podcast for Creative People. . .try it. I talk to creatives of all kinds about the history behind their passion, their creative process, and what advice they have for other creatives.

Ep.92 | Cocoon ArtSpace – The Collaborative "Growth" Exhibit A Podcast for Creative People

Cocoon Art Space is a vibrant art gallery and studio located at 327 S. Division Ave in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Founded by artists (and married couple) Josie Garcia and Tedd Smith, the space serves as a hub for local creativity, offering a rotating selection of exhibitions, handmade goods, and community events. The "Growth" exhibit celebrates nine different artists, who over the course of two months, illustrated, painted or sculpted their idea of growth into one collaborative piece. I talked to a few of the artists about how this whole thing worked. Those artists are: John Jurries* Tedd Smith* Corinne Roberts Kat Vanderweele Jenny Hearns* C.R. Warner* Robyn Smith* Christina Hutton  Lain Leo Bold* indicates the artists who were interviewed on the podcast, and you can click to open the link to their websites/socials in a new window. A lot of the people on the mailing list for this newsletter are people I met out in the world selling books. I’m glad our paths crossed.

If you liked Switchers, keep an eye out for my next book. I’ll have more details and cover reveal type things coming up in the not-too-distant future.

Later!
