Drugs, Death, & Dystopia

author J.B. Velasquez on A PODCAST FOR CREATIVE PEOPLE

As Shakespeare said, “What’s in a f@#king name?”

I may have misquoted Bill Shakespeare just a bit, but you get the idea. I changed the name of my podcast. It used to be called Creative Ops, but that name was always a little off.

Also, this week I talked to a novelist who wrote a book about a guy who tripped too hard on magic mushrooms and got stuck in the afterlife as a result. That book is called Tourist Trapped, and it’s great. He has another book set in the future that’s more of a sci-fi/dystopian story called Every Last One that I have still yet to read, but it sounds amazing!

It Really Was a Stupid-Ass Name…

It’s accidentally waaaaaay off from what it’s supposed to be about. I didn’t know any better…

I gave it the name Creative Ops because I thought, I’m creative and I’m a war veteran so this makes sense. But then I realized, after the fact, that creative operations (sometimes called creative ops) is a type of management. So people were looking at the title of my podcast and saying, “Oh, this is a niche management podcast.” Then several other people who actually work in creative operations started podcasts called creative operations. Seriously, there were at least 3 that I know of. Plus the show has nothing to do with being a veteran. So it was time for a change.

A Podcast for Creative People is the new name. It’s how I’ve described the show for some time. It was even on the old cover art. See?

If you look at the new cover art, you’ll see that I pretty much took the tagline art and made it into the full cover art. So the look isn’t completely revamped; a little old in the new, you might say. I didn’t want to change it too drastically. At least not until everyone (or mostly everyone (there’ll be someone a year later like, “Hey…you changed the name.”))

I also changed the theme music from this:

To this:

As always, the music is 100% original and composed by me! I feel like it ads to the atmosphere of creativity. Maybe it’s just me.

The Man behind the Drugs, Death, and Dystopia: J.B. Velasquez

J.B. Velasquez is an author in Arizona. He’s written two novels, so far, and they’re both worth a read. Whether you like metaphysical stories of people doing drugs and getting stuck in the afterlife, or futuristic dystopian stuff, give J.B. a try.

We discuss his books, his process, publishing, promotion, and writing about drugs. This was fun and informative.

Take a listen right here in your browser, if you like:

You can always download it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or anywhere else you get podcasts. If you search it up and can’t find it, let me know. It should be everywhere. The cover art might still be the old one, depending which platform you’re on, so don’t get confused.
