Why the Manager at My Local Barnes & Noble F—ing Hates Me

True Story: The Hatred at Barnes & Noble is Real

I went into my local B&N ahead of my upcoming book release to inquire about getting my book in the store.

At this point you might be saying, Well that sounds harmless. Or, if you know better, you might be kicking your feet up, saying, This oughta be good.

I asked if there was a proper way to get my book considered by B&N for their shelves. She said there wasn’t, then preceded to tell me that I’m one of over a hundred people that has asked that week.

Probably should’ve recognized the hostility and turned around. But I’m kinda into confrontation. So I tried to emphasize that I already have a readership, I’m good at getting on TV and radio to promote myself…

…and that I’ve sold quite a few books in other, smaller bookstores. Her response caught me way off guard.

“Oh, I get it. You’re better than everyone else.”

Then she told me how busy she is and said she’d pass my book along to someone else. When I said, “OK, let me give you my information in case they want to talk to me,” she sighed and begrudgingly took down my info.

When I turned to walk away, she immediately started making fun of me to the person standing next to her. I hadn’t even walked away yet.

Crazy, right? On both of our parts, I guess. I learned to get a better read on people and the situation before I push my own agenda.

Fortunately, from posting about it on Threads, someone else who works at B&N reached out and told me that there is in fact a way to do what I was trying to do. They shared the info with me and I’ll be smarter about it from now on.

But onto the important part of that story: My new book comes out this week!

Sleepwalker Angel by Christopher Tallon is out this week!

Upcoming Book Release Events (2/8/25)!

I’m going on TV again this week to promote the new release and the events that will accompany. Let’s talk about them, shall we?

Book Signing at HAS HEART Coffee Shop

I’ll be selling and signing copies of my new book Sleepwalker Angel at HAS HEART from 11a-1p.

Come out for a great cup of coffee and a fun book to read with it.

Book Release Party at GRAMMOTONES (w/ Sonny Ski)

And a party it will be. I’ve got one of the best rappers (in my opinion) in the entire world as the musical act: SONNY SKI!

It’s $20 for a book, author readings, and a concert by an award winning (and recently nominated again) rapper.

If you already have the book (or just want to come for the music) it’s $10.

A Call to Action!

Come to the Events

Come out to one, or both, of my launch events on February 8th in Downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I’ll be at Has Heart during the day, then Grammotones at night for the big book launch party with musical guest Sonny Ski!

If you aren’t able to make it out on Saturday, feel free to order a signed copy from my website, or you can pre-order the ebook from Amazon for whatever device you use the Kindle app on. (Or the Kindle itself.)

Ask about Me at Barnes & Noble

And if you ever go to a Barnes & Noble, ask about my books. They’re in the system, but not on the shelves.

You rock. So hard.

See Ya Next Time

Thanks so much for your support, whether it be buying books in-person or online, or just by following my on social media. Writing books wouldn’t be as much fun if cool people like you didn’t read em and interact with me.

Follow Me Online!

Speaking of, follow me on Threads, Instagram, and Facebook and let me know whatcha think of the books. I love talking books and writing, and you’d be surprised how much reader feedback influences my future choices. I won’t write a story based on your idea (probably), but if you say something like, I’d like to read a book with ____________________ representation, I just might make it happen.

You guys are the best!
